In order to function in the kingdom of God, we must do things God's way, according to His will. He requires obedience. We must live holy, pure lives, clean of any defilement of worldly ways. We must constantly work on our hearts. This is done thru consistently repenting of our sins.
We must give God our hearts on a daily basis and ask Him to purify and refine us so that we will be prepared to live in His kingdom. Remember, no sin can come into the kingdom, but He will clean us of all sin thru His blood if we allow Him to.
